Pronunciation is a rough guide. If your child's teacher says it differently, go with the teacher.

How to use this at home

Your child practises recognising 6 Irish words about body by linking each written word to its picture. It builds reading confidence: the child has to look at the whole word, fadas included, rather than guess from the first letter.

  1. Before the pencil comes out, go through the word list above together. If the pronunciation column is there, say each word out loud; if not, ask your child how their teacher says it. Children love being the expert.
  2. Do it twice: once today, and again in three or four days with a fresh print. The second go is where the words really stick.
  3. Trace round your child on a big sheet of paper and label body parts together.
