How to use this at home

Your child practises recognising 6 Irish words about at school by linking each written word to its picture. It builds reading confidence: the child has to look at the whole word, fadas included, rather than guess from the first letter.

  1. Do it twice: once today, and again in three or four days with a fresh print. The second go is where the words really stick.
  2. Before the pencil comes out, go through the word list above together. If the pronunciation column is there, say each word out loud; if not, ask your child how their teacher says it. Children love being the expert.
  3. Play teacher: let your child give you classroom instructions in Irish and you follow them.
