How to use this at home
Your child practises recognising 6 Irish words about autumn by linking each written word to its picture. It builds reading confidence: the child has to look at the whole word, fadas included, rather than guess from the first letter.
- Once the lines are drawn, colour the pictures and cut them out. Hold one up at dinner and ask "what's this in Irish?". Two minutes a day beats an hour once a week.
- Do it twice: once today, and again in three or four days with a fresh print. The second go is where the words really stick.
- Go on a short autumn walk and tick off each thing from the sheet you spot. For example, cnó capaill means "conker".
