Pronunciation is a rough guide. If your child's teacher says it differently, go with the teacher.
How to use this at home
Your child practises recognising 6 Irish words about shopping by linking each written word to its picture. It builds reading confidence: the child has to look at the whole word, fadas included, rather than guess from the first letter.
- Once the lines are drawn, colour the pictures and cut them out. Hold one up at dinner and ask "what's this in Irish?". Two minutes a day beats an hour once a week.
- Cover the answer key and let your child do the sheet alone, then check it together using the answer page. Talk about any mix-ups: which two words looked alike?
- Write a short shopping list together and say the words in Irish at the shop. For example, liosta means "list".
