Pronunciation is a rough guide. If your child's teacher says it differently, go with the teacher.
How to use this at home
Your child practises the exact spelling of 6 Irish words about shopping. Because the letters have to match exactly, they quickly learn that a fada matters: á is a different letter from a, just as it is in their school copybook.
- Make it a race: you look for one word while your child looks for another. The answer key on page 2 settles any arguments.
- When a word has a fada, point it out before searching ("look for the í with the line on top"). That habit pays off later when they write the words themselves.
- Let your child carry the basket or push the trolley and name things as they go in.
